Term

Example
Angle
The plot of a feud; the scripts devised by the writers which are acted out on TV.
Stephanie McMahon marrying Triple H is an angle. In real life, they are not married.
Blade
When a wrestler cuts himself during a match to shed blood with a razor blade, which is usually hidden in the tape wrapped around their wrists.
Steve Austin bladed at WrestleMania 13 and passed out due to loss of blood.
Booker
Person who comes with angles, picks the winners of matches, comes up with ideas for gimmicks, and hires & fires wrestlers.
Vince Russo used to be a booker in the WWF, since he used to help write the scripts for Raw is War.
Bump
When a wrestler takes a fall after being on the receiving end of a maneuver.
Shane McMahon took a huge bump when he fell from 40 feet at Summerslam 2000.
Dark Match
A match that is not aired on television.
Before RAW begins, dark matches are held, and won't be seen on TV.
Face
The good guy; the fan favorite. Also known as babyface.
The Rock is the WWF's top face.
Feud
When two wrestlers or teag teams fight with each other over the course of several weeks.
In the the 80's, Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant engaged in a legendary feud.
Heat
When a wrestler gets a large (negative) response from the fans; boos.
Steven Richards get tremendous heat when he tries to censor certain acts on WWF TV.
Heel
The bad guy; the rule breaker.
Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley is a great heel because the fans chant "slut" when she comes out.
House Show
Wrestling show that is not shown on TV.
Bret Hart defeated Ric Flair for the WWF title at the October 1993 house show.
Job
To lose the match
Shawn Michaels jobbed to Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14, thus losing the title.
Jobber
Wrestler who constantly loses his matches
One of the most well known jobbers is The Brooklyn Brawler.
Juice
Blood
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin juiced at the 1998 King of the Ring.
Kayfabe
To stay in character.
Usually when wrestlers go on talk shows, they will not break kayfabe.
Mark
Fans who think all the angles in wrestling are real.
Anyone who thinks that Kane and Undertaker are really brothers is a mark.
Over
When a wrestler's gimmick is accepted by the fans or when a wrestler receives legitimate heat.
The Rock is the most over wrestler today.
Pop
The crowd's (positive) reaction to a wrestler; cheers.
Chris Jericho gets huge pops when he comes out.
Push
When a wrestler goes on a winning streak.
Steve Austin got a push because of the incredible heat he gets from the fans.
Screwjob
When a match ends in controversy, usually against the face.
Sid's match against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VIII ended in a screw job because Papa Shango interfered.
Sell
To act (well) as if you have been on the receiving end of an wrestling maneuver.
Triple H is known to sell the finishers of other wrestlers very well.
Shoot
When some bumps in a match is real. Something real that happens when it is not supposed to happen.
Vince McMahon screwing Bret Hart at the 1997 Survivor Series was a shoot.
Shoot Interview
Interview where the wrestler breaks kayfabe
When Raven talks about Diamond Dallas Page being Eric Bischoff's neighbor, it's a shoot interview.
Spot
A wrestling move; the (unforgettable) highlights of a match.
A spot from the 1998 KOTR is when Mick Foley was thrown off the top of the cage, and falling a good 20 feet.
Squash
A quick match on TV that usually only has one wrestler dictate the offense; a dominating match.
In the 80s and 90s, the Ultimate Warrior was famous for his squash matches.
Stiff
To hit your maneuvers with more force than is necessary.
Chris Jericho is known as a stiff worker because sometimes he injures his opponents inadvertently.
Storyline
A series of angles that are interrelated and which usually intensifies a feud.
The WWF's top storyline this summer was the Triple H/Stephanie/Kurt Angle triangle which also included the Eddie Guerrero/Chyna angle at one point.
Tweener
A wrestler that isn't a heel or face
When Diesel attacked Bret Hart at the 1995 Survivor Series, but still remained Shawn Michaels' friend, he was considered a tweener.
Work
Something that is planned out ahead of time.
Vince McMahon's hatred for Steve Austin is all a work.
